Most of the things I use on a daily basis fall into the category of packaging. Your packaging is a direct reflection of your brand, so you need to make sure it represents you well.

I use a variety of packaging supplies to get the look I want. What separates small shops from larger businesses is the personal touch. I want my customers to feel the personal touch I put into each package when they open it! Plus, the more aesthetically pleasing your packaging is, the more likely your customers will share it on social media!

Polymailers are lightweight, plastic bag-type mailers that are great for transporting clothes. They are usually water resistant and have a self-sealing strip at the top, so they are very easy to use! From fun prints, solid colors, and custom designs with your own logo, you’ll find every type of polymailer under the sun! Polymailers come in a variety of sizes, so make sure you get the right size(s) for your business. I usually buy three different sizes, small, medium/large and extra large for those mini shopping sprees.

All polymers are made from plastic. There are some great compostable mailers, while others are made with 100% recycled materials.

It’s a good idea to have a few boxes on hand if you’re going to be shipping more fragile items that don’t do well in polymailer. I mainly use boxes to carry hats and sometimes purses. You can buy affordable boxes from Uline and they come in all sizes and styles to suit your needs.

When providing packaging information, you will need measurements such as height, width, and length. I use a soft measuring tape to find this information for all my polymailer packages.

You need a printer to print packing slips and shipping labels! Now, you have a few options here. You can use your regular printer to print both, or invest in a label printer for your shipping labels! Honestly, a label printer is worth every penny in my experience and it will save you a ton of money on ink costs.

Don’t forget to include a personal thank you card with every order! This helps create a personalized experience for your customers and can remind them to do useful things like post a review or photo of their new purchase! I use Vistaprint to design most of my cards, but there are many places you can do this. I’ve been looking at some cute designs on Etsy to use after I run out of my current cards.

Last but not least! Don’t forget to include the discount code in their order! This can be on a thank you card if you want, or you can make a special card. Personally, I like to keep these separate so I can use different discounts with different customers and at different times of the year. I also design my discount code cards on Vistaprint!
