According to Anees, position/job seekers who inquire about work-related challenges stand out. Employers love candidates who are up for a challenge and want to know what it takes to succeed in the role. “It helps to understand that they are willing to take on certain responsibilities,” Anees said.

“It’s very unlikely that there will be enough time to ask many questions, so the candidate should be prepared and have some questions,” says Snell. “Interviews are a two-way street, and employers expect job seekers to be prepared to ask thoughtful, intelligent questions.

4. I learned a lot today and I’m even more excited about this opportunity, so can I answer any questions about whether I can do this job? “It shows that you want the job and want to remove any concerns they may have,” Clark said.
As the interview draws to a close, and if the employer hasn’t already covered it, Clark says to always ask: What are the next steps in the interview process?
“It’s important to know what to expect and when to follow up if you don’t get a response,” Clark said.

Why this question: This question shows the candidate that they already have certain “soft skills” that are typically acquired and developed through working in the workforce. This student may have graduated from an institution that offers soft skills (or “power skills”) as a special program and is well on his way to developing these important work and personal life skills.
Good questions show that you’ve researched the position, the company, and even highlighted some of your strengths. “It shows the employer that you’re very interested and excited about the opportunity,” says Clark.
“I appreciate candidates taking the last few minutes to reiterate their interest and why their skills and abilities will make a difference to the team,” Anies said. “Don’t forget to smile and shake hands firmly.”
