If you’re new to the blogging world, it’s easy to get confused about what you’re doing and don’t need to start a blog.

Fortunately, we can use Bluehost (hosting company) to set up our host, domain and website. In the next section, I’ll show you exactly how to do this.

But above all, the reason why I prefer Bluehost over all other hosts is that Bluehost offers reliable services and affordable plans starting at $2.95 per month. You also get a free domain when you buy hosting. And their excellent customer support over the years is why I continue to trust Bluehost with my own websites and the websites of my 50+ clients.

Just follow these steps one by one and your site will be set up in about 10 minutes.

2. Choose the hosting plan that works best for you. The basic design is what I recommend for beginners.

4. After entering your domain name, you will enter your personal information and select a hosting package (with 12, 24, and 36 monthly pricing options).

If money is tight, choose a 12-month hosting plan. But if you want to help yourself mentally commit to blogging for the long term (which is key to building a business from your blog), the 36-month plan offers the most value and the lowest monthly fee. Then click the “Submit” button.

To access your WordPress dashboard, simply add /wp-admin to the end of your website URL (eg http://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin). And you can make your life easier by bookmarking this page so you don’t have to remember this URL in the future.

7. Next, it’s time to choose a WordPress theme — in other words, decide what your blog will look like.

You can choose a free WordPress theme and get the most out of it, or you can purchase a premium theme.

As with many things in life, you often get what you pay for. This is why I recommend purchasing a theme from Themeforest. Reasons for this include:

Then go to Appearance » Themes » Add New » Download Theme. Select the theme zip file on your computer, install it and activate it.

To write your first page, check it out in your WordPress admin dashboard, then go to Pages » Add New. And to write a blog post, click Posts » Add New.

And now you have a website where you can start getting visitors, fans, email subscribers and eventually customers. You’ll soon have a thriving business and a growing online empire.

But before you make plans to conquer the Internet, consider the fact that you have created a WordPress website yourself. I knew you could do it, his readers support it. If you purchase through a link on our site, we may receive a commission. READ MORE

You can choose between a “Starter”, “Plus” or “Business Pro” plan. If you’re just starting out as an individual, you’ll choose the Starter or Plus plan. The difference between the two is that the launcher only allows you to have 1 website and provides restrictions on other options such as website space, subdomains, and email accounts. The Plus plan allows you to have unlimited websites, website space, bandwidth, subdomains, email accounts and more. Plus you get an extra $150 in marketing offers. For this tutorial I will be using the Plus plan. However, if you only plan to have 1 site, go for the starter plan (cheaper too!). Click “Select” on the plan of your choice to continue.

Once you’ve chosen a plan, it’s time to choose a domain name. In the box on the left that says “new domain”, enter a random name for your site. For example mine, but you may want your site to be called yourname.com or whatever you like. Note that if the domain name is already taken, you cannot use it and you will be notified that it is not available. It must be something that no one has stated yet. After entering your domain name, click the Next button highlighted in red in the image below.

After successfully selecting an unoccupied domain name and clicking Next, you will be taken to a screen to enter additional information. The first section you need to fill out is Account Information. Here you will fill in information such as name, address, city/state, email address, etc. Make sure you enter a valid email address as this is where your receipt and other important information will be sent.

The next section to fill in is package information. Whatever design you choose at the beginning should already be filled in the first field. Note that the cheapest way is to pay 36 months (3 years) in advance. However, if you only want to purchase hosting for 1 or 2 years, you can choose a 12-month or 24-month plan, but your price will increase by a few dollars per month. You then have a number of additional options to choose from. These include things like domain privacy, site backup, SiteLock protection, and more. The only additional option I would recommend is domain privacy protection. Leave the rest unchecked and I’ll explain domain privacy below.

If you check Domain Privacy Protection, it means that you will be protected from WHOIS lookups of your website. If you don’t know what a WHOIS lookup is, I’ll try to explain. You can go to some sites that have a WHOIS lookup and enter a domain name like “somesite.com”. If this domain name is registered by someone and there is no domain privacy, their personal information will be displayed to the searcher. However, if you have a private domain and someone does a WHOIS search, it only shows generic fictional information, and none of that information can be traced back to the person who actually owns the site. See an example below:

Almost done! The last thing you need to do is fill in the “Payment Details”. Fill in your payment details and then don’t forget to tick the “I confirm that I have read and agree to the Terms of Use…” box. Finally, click the green “Next” button. You may be asked if you want updates. Ignore all updates and continue to complete your order.

Once you’ve set everything up and ordered your hosting package, congratulations! You have successfully purchased hosting for your new blog. You should receive emails at the email address you entered containing information such as your website URL and the URL to access the control panel. SAVE THIS INFORMATION because we will need it
