How To Conduct A Virtual Interview
Is there anything behind you that will show up on camera and in the eye of the interviewer? This is your prospective employer’s first impression, so make sure your environment is tidy and things are out of the way of the camera.
Do you dress appropriately for the interview? You should treat video interviews with the same formality as face-to-face interviews, so no pajamas or loungewear!
Before starting the interview, check that the camera is facing you and away from you so that your head is cropped or your nose is looking up.

Choose an interview location where you can control the environment. If possible, conduct the video interview at home, but any quiet place with a good internet connection is also a viable option. Do not conduct video interviews in coffee shops unless absolutely necessary.
“Think about what else will happen to you during the interview process,” says Gardner, Amy M. Avoid noisy or busy areas, and if you can, check the area the day before the interview for any unwanted interruptions or internet interruptions.
As for lighting, natural light from windows is ideal. Fluorescent or tungsten lighting can be unhygienic.

It is best to move away from the light source (it creates shadows), but check the brightness of glasses, watches or jewelry.
Position the computer so that the camera is close to eye level. If you want to use your phone, put it on a stack of books. You will avoid the effect of hand shake and the extra height will keep the camera at the right angle.
Multiple monitors? Position the person with the camera in front of you so that you do not turn or take your eyes off the interviewer.
Bonus tip: Place the interview window as close to the camera as possible to help simulate eye contact with the interviewer.

Dress professionally from head to toe: You’ll feel and act more polished if you’re not wearing sweatpants. Just avoid wearing jewelry that makes too much noise or draws attention.
